چکیده

This paper explores gait recognition for various walking speeds. Normal-constant speed is one of the assumptions being made in many current gait recognition techniques. However, some techniques do not scale well when certain gait conditions such as walking speed varies. We demonstrate the characteristics of time-distance gait parameters, stride length and cadence, with respect to walking speed at the interand intra-individual variation levels. The speed normalization or adjustment of gait features are studied and presented in details along with the expected recognition results. Our study of walking speed variations allows us to ascertain systematically the expected recognition-performance of time-distance gait parameters (stride length and cadence). In addition, we show the levels of measurement noise which can be tolerated in measuring these gait features without losing useful identity information.

Effect of different walking speed on the gait kinematics of individuals with knee varus

The purpose of current study was to investigate the spatio-temporal gait parameters and knee varus angle during walking at different speeds in young with knee varus. 18 subjects with varus deformity classified at grade 3 of bowleg and 17 healthy subjects, volunteered to participate in this study. The following variables include stance, swing, double support and cycle time, cadence, stride le...

A Study of Human Gaits across Different Speeds

This paper explores time-distance gait parameters across walking speeds. Our approach consists of designing an experimental setup to gather walking data at various speeds, analyzing time-distance features with respect to speeds. We explain the motivations of this study and the details of the experimental setup that allows people to walk naturally on the ground level floor and at the same time a...

Speed-Independent Gait Identification for Mobile Devices

Due to the intensive use of mobile phones for different purposes, these devices usually contain confidential information which must not be accessed by another person apart from the owner of the device. Furthermore, the new generation phones commonly incorporate an accelerometer which may be used to capture the acceleration signals produced as a result of owner's gait. Nowadays, gait identificat...

Gait and activity recognition using commercial phones

This paper presents the results of applying gait and activity recognition on a commercially available mobile smartphone, where both data collection and real-time analysis was done on the phone. The collected data was also transferred to a computer for further analysis and comparison of various distance metrics and machine learning techniques. In our experiment 5 users created each 3 templates o...

Evaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject

Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
